Catholics and Christians: video on how monsignor debunks having faith in Christ.?

I guess I'm ignorant when it comes to other religions. I know people of many different religions but I found this to be educational. Growing up I would here how the catholic church was not based on biblical facts. I would see them devoted to the church, and yet behaved badly, like witchcraft. But as I became A Christian I did not want to be judgmental ( though I can still be in other circumstances) to other religions.

Please your input on this video. What do you think. And what religion you are.
goodluck: did you hear what the monsignor was saying? That Christ dying on the cross has no real significants to the believers.

So does that mean that catholics are not Christians?

Catholics ARE Christians! I think you are right; you ARE ignorant of other religions and ignorant of your own religious history. I've seen many a Protestant go to church every Sunday and "yet behave badly, like witchcraft." In fact, last February, Oprah did a show on 4 Black boys who were adopted originally but good "church-goin people" who starved those boys to the point where they'd eat wood and any other scrap they could find in the trash. Good Protestant church goers.

I suggest studying your Christian history and find out that YOUR history is Catholic.

Well, First off... The video cuts off, so we don't have the full debate. Passing judgement on a partial debate would be judgemental.

Secondly, This Monsignor may not have been quite ready for the debate and therfore not had specific talking points. Apologetics is a learned skill. I can see from the video that the Monsignor seems quite annoyed at the situation.

We don't know why.. maybe because he felt defensive, unprepared, we don't know. Maybe because he was brought there under false pretenses... again.. we don't know.

The layout of this very old video appears to be more of a talk show then a classic debate style forum.
If you were truly debating... you would have notes at least.

Thirdly, the Monsignor does not speak FOR the Catholic church. He is but a Priest. Notice they are not debating with a Bishop (who alone does not speak for the church) or a Cardinal.

They refer vaguely to the Christian forefathers.. but not specifically to WHO or what they said. I have an idea that they may mean "christian forefathers" differently than Catholics do.


But I agree with you that he is NOT representing the faith very well. I can also see the uncomfortableness in his demeanor and he is NOT answering the questions well.
So well versed in apologetics he is not. - Which begs the question as to WHY he'd agree to go on that show, unless he is either A) arrogant of his abilities or B) brought there under false pretenses.

There are a lot of things that I'd bring up, if I were in that hot seat... more still if I had time to prepare a rebuttal.



Salvation without Faith is not what the Catholic church teaches and advocates. The producers of that show make it out to be that the Church teaches that Faith is optional and ancilliary or something.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

But academically.. the Church can not limit God's mercy as Paul himself in Scritpture talks about non-believers and how their actions will either convict them or absolve them. But that they can just as easily be convicted.

Clearly Faith is important and one of the things that God made us for. BUT, as the Monsignor points out.. a 3 years old does not have faith.. and so we can not say that it goes to hell.
There are situations where through no fault of their own.. people are raised with faith. We can not therefore condemn them, through our judgements to Hell.
We MUST leave the door open a crack and like Paul.. simply say that their deeds, in the end, will either convict or condemn them.
