To put the question into numbers: if 60% = 18.60, 100% = ??
.6x = 18.6
Solve for 'x':
divide each side by .6 to isolate 'x':
x = 18.6 / .6
x = 31

£31.00

Hope that's clear enough.

price with discount= £18.60
discount rate =60%

therefore the original price is:
=(£18.60 /60) * 100
=0.31 * 100
=£31.00

or

in algebraic method::::
let say the original price is x
discount rate is: 60% ==> 0.6

so: 0.6x = £18.60
x = £18.60 / 0.6
x = £31.00
therefore the original price is £31.00
