...first good advice? Applying for study in this up coming mid year and wondering if someone could give me some pointers or advice about this cover letter. I won't be offended by constructive criticism. Thanks!
Please note - the university calls for an introduction explaining the following
reason for study
motivation for study
how I have prepared for study.
"I am applying for study at Edith Cowan University in this year's upcoming second semester; in the field of Bachelor of Science (Human Biology).
I am a 25 year old male, currently working and living in the north of Western Australia as a Commercial Charter Pilot. I have been working and studying as a pilot for over 3 years, but I wish to return to study in the area of Social Sciences and Health at Edith Cowan University.
The reason I have chosen ECU as my first choice of study is because I was impressed with the Social Science department and the wide range of courses you have on offer in this field. I have also been told by numerous people that Edith Cowan University has one of the stronger Social Science departments out the universities in Western Australia.
My motivation for study in this area lies in the fact that as I have matured, I have become more aware of my vocations; my strengths as a person, and my passions in life. I understand that at 27 years old (with a career in aviation) it is a serious decision to want to return to be a full time student, and definitely not something I take lightly. As I have grown older I have come to realise my personal strengths. As much as I love flying aircraft’s (and I will continue to do so for recreation), my heart lies in health, dealing with people, and overcoming problems - I really get my motivation and strength from working with people on a day-to-day basis.
My motivation to be successful and my preparation for returning to study is something I take seriously. In my application process for ECU, I was advised that a portfolio (with my previous level of study) would be the best method of admission to the university. However, I have still committed to sitting the STAT test in May, so I will better my chances for entrance into ECU. I'm currently studying for the STAT test and reading books in the area of Health Science. I will also be relocating from Denham to Perth for my studies. My long term goal is to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, furthering my studies in Audiology (or similar field).
On a closing note, I believe I will be a contributing student at ECU. I am a dedicated, hard working individual who takes my studies seriously. I know that I am much more grounded and driven person than I was 8 years ago. I believe my success in aviation shows I have what it takes to be successful in the field I commit myself too.
I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to study Human Biology at Edith Cowan in this upcoming semester and I hope I have covered the areas of importance in this introduction letter."
Regards
