I am 22 and have been boxing for about 6months to a year off and on mostly because gyms in my area dont stay open for very long and i have to switch sometimes......i feel i could be ready for my first amatuer fight in 3-4 months or less but the gym i go to now has put me in kind of a bind......i am 6 foot 3 inches and about 190-200 pounds when i am in shape.... i am quick on my feet, have fast hands and good head movement....most people when i am on my game have a very hard time hitting me.....the problem is my gym(which trains both mma and boxing) has no people my weight to spar with so the only 2guys i get paired with are my 6'3" 340 pound retired boxing coach or my 6'5" 320 pounds (mostly mucsle) sparring buddy..... and on top of that we train in 16 foot ring which i think is on the smaller side for someone who uses a lot of mvt.......so when u combine my style, the ring size, and opponent size i generally have a hard time staying away from or tying up either of them and get hit more frequently and alot harder than i would under more fair circumsatnces..... im not a quitter and can take a good punch but i feel i am already past the "tough it out" stage of my training as already ive taken a few beatings as a novice, didnt quit and forced myself to get better so i am definitely not running from challenge.....but i feel i need more fight specific training as the habits/stances and movement i am using against them wouldnt be applicable to someone on more equal terms (ie bigger ring equal and equal weight).. WHAT SHOULD I DO? ive signed a year contract and it is a good gym despite this i(ve been to much worse) but they just opened up and dont have a boatload of people yet.... should i try to learn mma where this place have alot more 200 pound guys to fight since i have some experience in other styles?
