...from Roman Mithraism? Baptism in Mithraism

The disciplinary grades of Mithras are reported to be eighty in number, through which the candidate for initiation must pass in succession. In addition to those already described there is immersion in water- Cosmas of Jerusalem

Trinity in Mithraism

At any rate then, this is reported by the Persian sacerdotal legends, and to this day, Magi celebrate the memorials of the triune Mithras- 'Dionysius the Areopagite', Epist. 7 (p. 96)

Lord's Supper in Mithraism

For the apostles, in the memoirs composed by them, which are called Gospels, have thus delivered unto us what was enjoined upon them; that Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks, said, "This do ye in remembrance of Me, this is My body; and that, after the same manner, having taken the cup and given thanks, He said, "This is My blood; "and gave it to them alone. Which the wicked devils have imitated in the mysteries of Mithras, commanding the same thing to be done- Justin Martyr, 1 Apology. 66 (108)

If I walk into it without knowing any context whatsoever, a lot of things sound like Christianity.

In a word, no. As someone said above, toward the end of Mithraism it had borrowed from Christianity. I am familiar with nearly everything known about Mithraism, and it had nothing in common with Christianity.

You don't really expect them to just drop their religion, do you?

Three quotes. Bravo! Now all you have to do is completely ignore the Jewish apocalypticism of Christianity in order to properly conclude that Christianity is an *immitation* of Mithraism.

Problem is, lots of societies are capable of coming to the same conclusion independently, and many indeed fashion philosophies from others. Christianity, just like every other religion, wasn't formed in a vacuum so you'd be hard pressed to say that Christianity is 100% unique. Then again, you'd be hard pressed to show that Christianity is 100% fabricated from other belief forms.

The Greeks had a democracy before the US, so our government must be copied from the Greeks, right?

Oh but wait, our three branched aspect of government comes from the Romans. So which is it Greek or Roman?

We go to war, and so have humans for thousands of years, we must've copied those pre-agriculture societies, eh?
