Do you accept that your religion was at one point a threat, free of secular control, or do you dislike associating yourself with that and claim it to be related to other denominations?
My religion committed no atrocities; people who claimed to be following my religion did.
The only thing my religion threatens is man's acceptance that there is something more powerful than he is.

Really, I'm not the one that did them, and I wasn't around to do anything about it, so I'm not losing any sleep over it. I know that sounds cold, but it's really not my problem, and I don't try to make it mine. I don't try to excuse it, say that they weren't 'real christians', either. If there's one thing that I've learned in life and believe beyond all doubt, it's that people in general are screwups. I get over it.
I am an atheist but when you use something as a weapon, which in the cases that you have in mind it was religion being used in that way. Do you blame the gun for killing someone, no, you blame the person using it for wrong, I think it is as simple as that.
Once again, a person can put on the "christian" name tag, and only be after power.
I think A LOT of people back in the day were like that. There was a lot in the church that was jacked up for a long time. It doesnt disprove anything itself. I think the whole religion got very twisted because of the popes and mixing religion with government.

Don't confuse catholicism with the Christian church. The crusades were state-waged campaigns supported by the popes and bishops. Mercenaries donned shirts with red crosses and butchered everyone in their paths. They were anything but Christian.
