A family member was diagnosed with psoriasis a year ago and was on dovobet cream and betnovate scalp application, also aqueous cream for bathing.
Although not very widespread, the psoriasis has flared up a bit recently and was starting to spread to other areas. He went back to the GP who has stopped the Dovobet and the Betnovate and has given him Coal Tar solution 20% instead. He has been told to put the solution directly on the skin, not in the bath.
This stuff absolutely stinks to high heaven and stains everything it comes into contact with! Surely there is a more modern alternative to this, a coal tar based cream or something?
Is this still a standard treatment given out to people with psoriasis or has treatment moved on a bit?
I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has had experience of this and could give any suggestions.
Thank you.
