hi, i have recently bought a blueray player and they said i only need a HDMI cable to hook it up to my laptop, but when i plugged it in nothing happened, did i forget something?
please help, thanks
can someone please explain why i have spent over $100 because 3 people at future shop said that this would work!!!

You can not connect a blueray player to laptop. The HDMI on your laptop is to connect to a LCD TV.

HDMI is for sending audio and video signals to a TV or monitor. It can't be connected to a laptop. You'd need a BR drive, which usually uses USB or Firewire to connect to a computer. One example is at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135257

no thats incorrect. yes a hdmi cable dose communicate both ways but ur expecting for ur laptop to use its hdmi out put as a hdmi input so u can watch the bluray on ur laptop im supposing. laptops or pcs are not desined to use the hdmi port as a input. it can only send video/audio out of the hdmi from ur laptop. sorry

are you shure u didnt buy a bluray drive? not a blu ray player? i dono who told u that u can hook a blu ray player up to ur laptop. ps. sales people usualy dont konw much, but they know how to sell.
