Conservatives: What are the rules for arguing "good enough for the Founding

Fathers" -vs- "times have changed"? Half the time Conservatives say if something "was good enough for the Founding Fathers then it should be good enough for you."

The other half they say "times have changed".

I want to be a Conservative too, so how can I know when to use which?

The basic human nature has not changed. Thus any basic human rights should be upheld. Our society changes every generation or so due to new ideas and technology. Laws, which are based upon our ever changing moral code, are required to change as needed. Yet, they must remain in line with our basic rights which as are inherent upon our birth. Beyond this you must decide for yourself what you view as moral or not.

The Principles of the Founding Fathers do not change, only technology changes. Human nature and true principles will never change. Individual rights for all people "all men are created equal". A right to speak against what you disagree with. Read Common Sense by Paine to get a much more accurate look at the founding principles.

Times have changed, the rules haven't. The only reason why things are more complicated now is because we allow them to be. Truth is there's no need to limit free speech using things like the FCC because freedom of speech sees no time or change. Gun rights? Not everyone that owns a gun is a murderer. Most legal owners have never shot a person in their lives.

Basically, if someone is saying times have changed. You need to ask, what has changed? Of course things are going to naturally change in a free society. The problem is when it's the politicians saying times have changed or it's time for a change. That's when you as a Conservative or simply a concerned citizen has to see exactly what change they're talking about. Some people's idea of change aren't in line with what the founding fathers or for that matter the American citizen envisioned for change. When we put people in power without knowing what they intend to do with their power, we're rolling the dice. The constitution is supposed to be the backbone of how are society is run. Unfortunately politicians on both sides of the isle try to bend it there way or totally disregarded it all together. Conservative means you live life believing you can make your own future without any handouts from the government which is how our founding fathers envisioned our country. Hopefully Americans will continue to not want handouts from the governments and not allow our rights to be taken away.

The rules for any Republican argument are "use what sounds good at the moment"..

There is no consistency in their ideology whatsoever.

Nor do they seem to see any need for any.

America is an experiment that created the greatest standard of living the world has ever seen.
Those who say "times have changed" fail to see that what THEY want, has been tried and is a total failure.

To be a Conservative, you only have to adhere to the Constitution. And in their wisdom, the founding fathers gave a process to change it in changing times. See how easy that was. Glad you asked, glad to help.
