Economic Stimulus Bill:
The House passed an $819 billion version of the economic stimulus package last night. Debate now moves to the Senate. (USA Today)

Despite President Obama's call for a bipartisan effort, every House Republican voted against it. (LA Times)

About 5 percent of the package would go to infrastructure projects. (Boston Globe)

Healthcare Reform:
The Senate is expected to approve a bill that will provide health insurance to millions of low-income kids. The House already passed its version, and the president is expected to sign the bill. (Washington Post)

DTV Transition:

After passing the Senate unanimously, bill to delay the transition date from analog to digital television failed in the House -- at least for now. (CR Electronics blog)

Two of the congressmen who help scuttle the bill later offered one of their own. (Broadcasting and Cable)


Salmonella Outbreak:
The FDA released its safety inspection report on the Georgia factory which has been linked with tainted peanut products. It wasn't pretty. (CR Safety blog, FDA)

The FDA announced a massive expansion of the peanut butter recall yesterday -- every product made in that plant in the past two years is now on the list. (ABC News)

Maybe it's time to join the Consumers Union campaign and spread the word about food safety.

Auto Industry:
Ford has posted the worst annual performance in the auto makers 105-year history. The struggling car maker lost $14.6 billion last year and burned through $5.5 billion in cash in the fourth quarter alone. (Bloomberg)
