Convert camcorder DVD to MP4, VLC, WMV, AVI etc.?

I have a Canon camcorder and I want to put the video I made onto facebook and youtube. The problem is it is in the wrong format and only viewable in a computer or dvd player. I want it in one of the above mentioned formats. HELP PLEASE. Easy points.

If I need a program I want to use it on a free or trial basis.

VLC Media Player is a free converter and it can also play almost any video or sound file.

Once installed, open it and look at the top left corner of your screen. Click on "Media" then "Convert / Save"
After that, click the Add button and double click on the file you want to convert. Now click "Convert/Save" and then click the "Browse" button and save as something like NAME.MP4
