Converting PAL to NTSC on a Panasonic s53 DVD (U.S.)?

I'm a newbie and I need to know if it's possible to convert PAL to NTSC? I have a DVD from outside the U.S. that I'm trying to play on a DVD player in the U.S. The Panasonic DVD s53 plays this video only in black and white. All other U.S. dvd's play fine. I went through the menu and changed all settings to no avail. Can anyone help?
