I was watching the movie Lord of the Flies (1990 version) with my boyfriend. At the end my boyfriend said that would never happen; kids wouldn't start doing stupid things and kill each other.
I told him I disagreed, and said I found this pretty realistic.
He kept saying it would never happen, it was too stupid, and said the kids would never follow a stupid guy (Jack) who already killed someone on purpose.
I explained to him that I already see this behavior in bullies. I explained that bullies were the same as Jack; they are loudmouthed and can make other people cower in fear. Because of this, they can get a bunch of other kids to join him because they fear him and don't want to be on their bad side. When you got a group of people like this, and a crazy leader, they can do anything - including killing other kids.
He said he still didn't believe me, even when I pointed out that bullies beat the crap out of other kids when they're in a group.
So my question; just how realistic is Lord of the Flies? If kids were stranded, could something like that really happen where they would kill other kids?
