CPU Cooler for a side air vent?

I have a PC case that has a side air vent or whatever its called. That black thing on the side thats supposed to help with heat. Well I want to take advantage of how its set up above the CPU. Is there a CPU cooler that would blow the hot air through it or is that just not how it works? Or am i better off just getting a cooler that blows toward the rear fan?
