Cruise suite prices. Price per person or what?

Hello! I was hoping anyone with past experience with cruise ships could help me with my question.

So I want to go on a cruise but the thing I don't understand is that (for example) if a suite cost $000 per person and a "interior" room cost $500 a person, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a ticker for 1x Suite and 1x Interior room for a total of $1500? Then my girlfriend can just move in to my suite and leave the interior room vacant! What is the point of paying $1000 for a suite, and a additional $1000 just to have a second person share with me? Is there a add on fee to have someone share the Suite with you? If you had to pay $2000 then why not just get two separate Suites entirely? There has to be some catch to all this, or why wouldn't a large family just get a state room and fit 10 people in it? It is large enough for them all, and the price would be the same as 5x Interior Rooms...

I cant find any of this information on the cruise liner websites so I would appreciate any information to clear all this up.

Thanks,
Chris

Pricing is based on 2 people sharing a cabin. Any extra people are at a reduced rate IF the cabin has proper beds.
Which ever way you cut it the ship has fixed overheads which have to be shared by ALL cruisers. The cruise lines cannot afford to have freeloaders.
