what is better an all in one blu ray home theatre system, the ones that don't require an av receiver?
or a system with an av receiver where you have to go buy a blu ray player separate and plug through av receiver?

im on a low budget for now but may expand later on with more speakers and i hear that you cannot do that on the blu ray setup, also i dont need anything major but for my study room which i have my tv in and computer, it'll be used for gaming (xbox) and watching blu ray movies.
the system i'm set on is the:

or would you say spend a little more for the:

or buy an all in one system like the:

So what will give the best sound quality when gaming, watching normal tv and watching blu ray movies? i have a 42'' full HD tv with HDMI so thats covered. but the blu ray system seems to be more powerful and all so yes im a little confused.

HTIB systems have been the source of many frustrated questions here. "Home Theater In a Box" systems are defined by the disc player being integrated into the av receiver. This is not a bad idea, but many affordable sets came out for purchase by non-audiophiles, and non-av enthusiasts. These systems did not/do not have digital audio inputs, restricting the 5.1 decoder to the disc player. These units are the ones that made "HTIB" a synonym of "garbage" and "crap" because of there lack of flexibility, expandability, and low quality components. The disc players would start malfunctioning within a year, and no way to enjoy the surround sound with any other media. However, companies like Onkyo and Yamaha (fairly respected names in the industry, excellent quality products) have come out with "HTIB" systems that are very worthy of consideration. They're more like a comprehensive av receiver with a disc player built in. Several digital audio inputs including all types (HDMI, S/pdif coax, S/pdif Toslink optical) along with features like "audio return" and more are now part of the HTIB world. I'm sure these products have long lasting great results. Hopefully they outlast the hate of "HTIB" the cheap early units have generated. Good luck!

Don't buy systems that come with crap, and the system itself is probably crap.

Buy good stuff separated.
