I'd love to get any insight from people within the Child and Youth Care or Therapeutic Recreation industries.
Child and Youth Care careers could be in schools, recreation centres, family centres, camps, etc. This would be a career working closely with children and adolescents helping them with difficult situations and finding happiness within their lives.
Therapeutic Recreation would help me gain a career working with seniors in a retirement/care facility. My day would be spent creating and putting together activities to keep seniors happy, healthy and thinking. Activities like reading, singing, art and crafts, enjoying music, outings, and other things that would otherwise bring joy to their lives.
There are things that worry me about both careers however. Working with children, depending on my career path, could result in me having to help children through extremely difficult situations such as abuse, rape, neglect, etc.
In the Therapeutic Recreation field I would be working in retirement communities with large populations of elderly people who are suffering from many types of physical and mental conditions. Also, I know that there will always be the possibility that I may get close to residents that may pass away.
I know these things are all parts of the jobs and there are plenty of great things that I would get out of both of them though.
Opinions? :)
