Did i fail epically at changing a simple headlight bulb?

So, a few days ago my friend noticed that my passenger side headlight on my 08 chevy aveo was out. A couple days later i bought a new bulb. I then had a difficult time getting the old one out and installing the new one because i didn't feel like taking out the entire headlight. I was able to get the old bulb out after i removed what i thought was a simple metal holder for the bulb. I ended up leaving this part out though because i didn't really see how it fit back in, and the bulb seemed to stay in place without it.

I turned on my headlights, they both worked fine, and i thought all was well, however, when i came back an hour later my battery was completely dead, and when i opened the hood i could hear an odd clicking sound similar to that of a cd drive. Please tell me how the hell i am supposed to fix this. PS: I think chevy Aveos are giant piles of S***.

Below is a video of what i should have done, but was too lazy. The metal part i am talking about is the part that he "rocks back" to remove the bulb.
