do I have to buy E.T. on DVD in order to burn it onto DVD or would owning a...

...factory original VHS suffice? I'd like to have the original 1982 version on DVD and I don't want to have to shell out $10+ for a cruddy old used copy that insults the integrity of the original masterpiece by A) putting it alongside some totally pointless "improved" version AND B) pushing the original masterpiece to the back and C) labeling the superior as a "bonus disc"...just asking 'cause it seems the law(s) regarding DVD copyright are more strict than CDs/music...thanx.
