No, I have never heard of this requirement. There are many many trucks in all 50 states that are registered commercial, that are just plain white trucks.
You will have to check with your state. In NJ, atleast when I lived there, back in the 1950's any company car or a car used for commerical business had to have the name of the company and the phone number in letters that were atleast 3" high.
