Do I need to pre pay tips on a cruise?

I am in the process of booking a cruise for March. I have never been on one and in the online booking process there is an option to include the tip now ($140 per person). This is for a Carnival cruise and I'm wondering if I can just tip as I see fit while on the ship or I have to pre pay?
