DO LONG HOURS OF WORKOUTS LEAD YOU TO NO WHERE?

I read a article that said that if you workout for a long time without resting or giving your muscles to heal if self the workout will have no point..... and it said muscles need time to be heal and thats how they grow... Is that tru.. cuz i am planning to workout this summer and i am not tryna workout for long hours for nothing and no development
