I am thinking of one R&Ser who used to use the label Christian but doesn't anymore. I suddenly feel that I have more in common with her than I did before. I guess I just never felt like I could relate to someone who is as reasonable as I am with regard to things like science, homosexuality, politics, etc, and yet still feel comfortable calling herself a Christian and thus associating herself with a lot of people that I think are just horrible human beings. So, simply by removing the label, I feel less alienated from her world view. (Perhaps it isn't right that the word Christian has such a specific negative connotation in my mind, but it's Christians that made it that way, not me.)
Do non-fundie Christians realize that the label Christian can be quite alienating?

The same applies for a lot of groups.
Saying "I don't believe in any god of any kind" gets a completely different reaction out of people than "I'm an atheist."
