Do you greet people you know with a hug?

If we're real close and I haven't seen them in a long time. But this isn't so often, so not so much, no.

In general, no. There's too much casual hugging as it is.

But if I know that one of my women friends is going through a tough time, I'll offer her a hug.

I always greet our grown daughters and our grandchildren with hugs.

Yes, but it also depends on the type of person. If it's family that you are really close to them and it shows your love to them. It is an American custom I think. In asia we bow to people. To me embracing some means you love them or just really know them really well.

I'm really not that much of a touchy touchy type of person.
Unless they are exceedingly close, I don't!
They usually hug me first if anything.

some friends i kiss hello, some friends i hug hello, and some friends i just say hello to.
my hug and kiss mean a friendly hello depending on how well i know them.

You should greet someone with a hug if you are good friends with them and feel comfortable doing so. Side hugs are best for opposite genders.

Close friends. I hug them bye too. It just means 'im glad to see you' or 'ive missed you' or 'im going to miss you'
