Do you have to pay extra on T-mobile to get 4g connection?

I currently have an unlimited plan for $30 3g(at the time I ordered the feature on tmobile data.
 
No. It's not like Sprint :)

Doesn't matter if you are or are not using the 4G connection, they won't charge you extra for it.
 
No, but you do need a compatible phone.
