do you have to wear a helmet when riding a bike on the sidewalk [not the road]?

well i just got a bike and im still uneasy so im starting of in the sidewalk (is that even legal?) and i'd like to know if your sposed to wear a helmet there too?

my boyfriend got stopped cuz he was riding on the sidewalk so i don't think you can ride on the sidewalk. but to answer your question as long as you are 18 and above you don't have to wear one but its probably wise to wear one just in case. also if you ride at night you must have a lite.

It depends completely on city ordinances if it is illegal or legal to bike on the sidewalk. In some places, such as Fargo, ND, it is prohibited in certain marked areas yet perfectly fine in others.

As far as wearing a helmet. To my knowledge, you never "have" to wear a helmet. If you choose not to, enjoy your skull fracture and permanent brain damage.
