Rants or Ranting are a violation of the Community Guidelines.
Normally when I come across them - I ignore them and move onto something constructive.

Then there are the times when The Big Billy Goat Gruff ponders:

As to when the soap box will collapse.

I like a good rant. A good rant has to have content. It doesn't have to be structured, although it helps if people at least know what you talk about. A really good ranter can get away with having no content, but he has to be entertaining.

Parrot rants are boring. A parrot rant is something that takes a classical position (typical conservative, typical liberal) and just goes through the laundry list of things that bugs them. No fun.

Duckman was the master of all ranters.

I like to rant very much!

I don't like reading rants, unless I agree with everything it says... Which is rare...

I think 'nope' is nicer and more playful than a strong, stern 'no'. In my opinion. :)

you know what pisses me off?
when you're walking down the street and some say
"hello, how are you" and keeps walking...
they don't really care how i am!
why ask??

that's my pet peeve...obviously, haha

I don't consider your example to be a rant. It is more of an explanation and a statement of position.

I consider a rant to be a tirade composed of half-truths and falsehoods for or against some idea, thing, or person. Many political speeches are rants and turn me off (leave me unenthusiastic about the ranter).

I don't mind someone taking the time to explain something, as long as it avoids the use of half-truths or strawmen (false statements). If the material has references, all the better.

But for short, concise responses to questions in forums like this, I don't think either a rant or a long-winded explanation is necessary (and I'm guilty of doing some of this, myself).
