start appearing more and more? Apologist is a word that is only used for people who defend a particular belief system. You know, we don’t use the word for anything else other than the act of defending a belief system. Since no belief system is based on any evidence or rational thought process, defending a belief system is an act that is by default, irrational and without evidence.

Apologists are easy to spot because they have this edge of desperation in their arguments and they try to weasel their way around facts that they know are weaknesses in their arguments. They use tactics like emotional manipulations designed to coerce a desired response. They’re quick to claim victory in a debate and will go around trumpeting even the tiniest points they feel they won in an argument.

People will become specific subject apologists too, like; there are Catholic pedo-priest apologists whose specific role is to deflect criticism of the Catholic Church over the pedo-priest saga. There are creation apologists, aka, creationists, whose specific role is to defend the concept of biblical creation. In Islam, there are 9/11 apologists; these are people whose specific role is to defend Islam from criticism over 9/11 and all terrorist attacks carried out in the name if Islam.

Obviously, if a religion is strong and is not being criticized at all, there’s no need for apologists to exist, so it stands to reason that the more apologists there are, the more criticism the religion is suffering and the weaker it is, doesn’t it?
