Not so much a bad representation but not the most realistic. I suppose their is an elite group of New Yorkers who get to behave anyway they want because of their money and people groveling at their feet and taking all types of crap from them, but there are other very wonderful colorful and down to earth experiences to be had in NY.
I don't know if you mean NYC or NYU in particular. But NYU has buildings down in the village which is a unique and epic place to hang out. It is filled to the brim with a wonderfully bohemian flare. You can see just about anyone down there. Musicians, poets, basketball players, students, parents, kids so on and so on. One day might be a dog race in the park another might have a street fair for arts and crafts another day may have sidewalk sales, fire sales and another might be artists unite day. NYU stands front and center.
