Do you think joining the TA is a good idea?

Hi, I'm 19 years old and currently work part time in Oxford University IT division, I've been interested in the army for a long time ever since my first school although my Girlfriend and Family are against it, I'm tied to my current job and those closest to me which is partly why I'm not choosing the regular army and because of recent Government cut backs but I'm going to drop into a careers office tomorrow but I wanted to get an over all idea if people think serving in the TA is a good idea?
