Do you think music and movie piracy played a credible role in the current...

No. Not at all. Piracy has been happening since forever. In fact, people were surprised that Jobs actually got people to PAY for their music.

A minuscule amount, probably not even measurable.

Here is something interesting of note.
I live in China as a transplanted American and as most of us know, piracy of all kinds of items is a big problem here.
One can get a DVD, good quality for a buck, or a CD of the latest artist for the same. Clothing knock offs, even mobile phone knock offs.

I saw a news item about that, where a couple of western manufactures were asked questions about that. What they said was novel.

They said, in one sense, piracy was a very bad thing, in another sense, it is a good thing. Because, in this new economy, it is really the only way to get name and product recognition out there. The problem for many Chinese consumers is cost. Therefore, even now it is benefiting them and in the long run, it will reap huge profits for them, because as time marches forward, the Chinese authorities will make it harder and harder for the pirates to exist.

Interesting

Peace
Jim
