I adopted a coon hound a few months back. his breed requires special training ( ie: disipline or instincts are a little different then most breeds) ive searched online, found only basic training, went to the book store for this specific type of dog....the publisher delayed up to a year...i need to know how to train him so he stops running away on a scent or to listen to me when i call him back ( when he is trying to hunt) does anyone have personal experience to give me better insight?
I havent taken him to obediance school because one, its a lot of money for now, and two because I have had dogs all my life, just not a hound. i have never had so much trouble training them! once he gets a scent, its a ton of spastic barking, clawing and doing anything in his pwer to run away. of course i dont want him to get hurt one day, but i cant punish him for what is instinctive because that will eventually make his personality worse. so im told.
