I know this is a long shot but I read this book about 10 years ago and I cant remember the title or author. It takes place in Oakland. The main character is in love with a girl that's dating a thug/ drug dealer. The girl's boyfriend ends up getting killed and she and the main character are on a mission to find out who did it. By the end of the book you discover that one of her crazy, thugged out brothers from LA killed him. She goes temporarily insane and kills her brother. Her remaining brothers disown her because they feel she is just like their father who killed their mother. The book ends with the main character trying to clean the evidence off of the girl. I know it sounds crazy and over dramatic but it was really good. If only I could remember the title...
