It was probably written in the 1960's and it featured a future colonized world that had technology devolve to the point where the most effective battle tech was to mount a soldier on a 15 foot tall spider. Kind of like an arachnid BattleTech. I would love to find out the name of the author so I could re-visit some of those old books! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
