Panda bears have a very specialized diet – bamboo. That’s pretty much all they eat; just bamboo. It’s not very a nourishing fare so they spend most of their time eating large quantities of the stuff and digesting it. If they run out of bamboo or they’re forced to leave the area where bamboo grows, they’ll starve and die. They have traded a varying diet and lifestyle for uniqueness and now they need to maintain that uniqueness in order to survive as a species.

Religions have made a similar trade off too. They have traded adaptability for survival within a specialized niche. Now the very existence of religions is dependant upon the existence of that which gives them life, and in the case of religions, ignorant, gullible people give religions life. Religions can’t adapt to a world where people are informed and educated so they need to keep the populace ignorant and gullible or else religions will crumble to dust and be nothing but a memory of old world human practices and customs. Are ignorant, gullible people to religion what bamboo is to a panda bear?
