does dvd drive detect blue ray discs?

I have a laptop with dvd rw drive and I know that it is not capable of writing and reading blue ray discs, now my question is if I inserted a blue ray , will my drive detect it so that i can make an iso of it and mount it instead or my drive will just ignore it as if there was nothing in the drive?

It will not be able to read the disk at all. You will not be able to make an iso copy of it.

It won't hurt the blu ray disc, try it. It will probably just read it and open the drive door saying it's not compatible
