Does organized religion exist because of a human weakness?

And instead if trying to rectify that weakness, does organized religion exploit it, profit from it and ensure that the weakness is perpetuated generation after generation after generation? You know, the human weakness I’m talking about is the tendency for humans to believe in absurdities and be afraid of them. Absurdities like hell, eternal judgment and the thought of missing out on reward scenarios like heaven and being untied with lost loved ones; the tendency for humans to deny reality to maintain belief in ridiculous concepts such as these is to me a major weakness. We will find it all but impossible to advance as a species unless we can overcome these primitive weaknesses. But we have in nearly all human societies, a powerful organization in the form of a meme that is dedicated to ensuring the continued existence of this weakness; are we doomed unless we can defeat the mind-rot virus that is organized religion?

To what do you attribute your personal belief in yourself that you are right and everybody who disagree with you necessarily wrong? Do you claim superior intelligence, over and above those of us who believe in God? Have you become infallible in this matter simply because you are an atheist? You are too arrogant.

I think organized religion exists because religion is supposed to be a community "activity" for lack of a better word. Organized religions are meant for like-minded people who gather to worship together.
