Does prior military service help with becoming a police officer?

Im 22 years old serving my third year of active duty service, im currently in iraq, and when i return home i will ETS, i will not ACAP until i return and my nco's are totally worthless with my questions about careers after the army. If anyone can help me out with getting in the police academy i would be appreciative.
