I have shaw digital phone and telus dsl. I know that the phone comes into the house by cable then to the digital modem and then goes into the phone jack but does that phone jack connect with the same line as my dsl? and also I have a filter provided by telus dsl that the tech put on my phone line he said that that would reduce noise to the internet connection but if they don't share the same line then why have the filter. Help please here.

They use different lines. The filter is to protect the Internet connection and has nothing whatsoever to do with your Shaw digital phone service.

Most houses have 1 RG6 wire coming into the house for TV and can be used for phone and internet in same wire. And some houses have separate Cat 5 wire Coming from road into house for telephone and internet. I've seen those filters before. their a white Lil cube shape with a short cord on them. I've been told they are to prevent static on phone lines. But i never use them because i don't see a difference in them. If your internet is RG6 wire and your phone is CAT 5 wire then you shouldn't need filter from what i understand. Because they would be complete separate lines. I'm an high voltage electrician. So i only know a little bit about low voltage. But it sounds like your using CAT 5 wire for your telephone and internet. So you should use filter if your are. In a CAT 5 wire there are 5 sets of little wires and different colors. And usually blue and white is telephone and brown and tan are internet. And all the wires are twisted together and you can get interference with the wires.
