does the earth travel faster in winter or summer? and how did this affect...

The kelpers law state the relation between distance and speed. When a planet is near Sun,it travels fast. It has no relation with summer or winter.In January Earth is near to Sun,Only in northern hemisphere we have winter then.

I guess the faster the travel, the closer to the center of the curve the earth is, since it had the greatest kinetic energy during its gravitational path. So I´d say summer for the Northern Hemisphere. Remember on the Southern Hemisphere this will normally be winter. The seasons are not determined by this, however. They are a consequence of the tilt of the Earth.The faster the travel, the flatter the shape of the analemma.

Earth's orbit is slightly elliptical, with the perihelion currently happening in early January. Mind you, the perihelion will shift slowly, due for example to the rotational precession.
