Does turning cruise control on and off reduce gas mileage?

I've been excessively using cruise control on the freeway recently, even when there is traffic. Is it a bad thing that I set the cruise to 65 then hit it off the next 10 seconds then turn it back on at 65 then hit it off again and repeat until i get to my destination? Does it waste gas?

Using cruise control in this fashion should not be done. Cruise is designed to operate when you are driving for reasonable lengths of highway at speeds from 40 on up, when you do not anticipate the need to slow down because the highway is all clear ahead for cruising. Instead, you should focus on using the gas and brake as usual until cruise conditions present themselves. Excessive cruise control on and off setting can even be distracting to you when your focus needs to be on your gas and brake peddles. Cruise control is for...well...cruising! Not stop and go, and on and off!

The modern day vehicle is efficient in the sense of system integration. Although the wisdom of habitually using cruise control could be questioned, especially in crowded situations; it honestly shouldn't make a significant difference to the vehicle performance.
