The psp can do a variety of things.It can browse the internet along with play games, you can also listen to music and watch videos on it. but what really makes a gaming system good is the games on it. the dsi has a lot of puzzle games and rpg games, while the psp has action adventure games and stuff along those lines. it really depends on if you are buying it for the functionality of it or the games for it.
 
I say buy a psp 2000 now and hack it (put custom firmware on it)
and then wait for the nintendo 3ds which is the new nintendo console due out next year i believe and it can play dsi games
