The things that happen in these 'what do we try next' situations tend to stick with you forever.
Trying to get into a particular 'establishment', we tried many non-forceful ploys to try and get past the extremely large guard at the gate. The DM threw everything in our way - this guy was impassible. The exchange finished of with me approaching with a friendly smile:
Me: Hi there.
DM: Oh! It's you again.
Me: Listen Norman - what is it going to.....
DM: My name's not Norman.
Me: Are you sure - I was convinced you were Norman the Doorman...
DM rolls D20 dice *ouch*
Since then, every member of door staff has been Norman to anyone in our old group.
There is a D&D MMORPG in the works, scheduled for 2005 or 2006. There is an interview with one of the designers at Gamespy. I'll see if I can find the link.
Blimey...the late 70's / early 80's...getting on the tube to visit Games Workshop in Ravensden Park, or Games Centre at Tottenham Court Road.... the hardback Players Manual, Monster Manual, Deities and Demi-gods and all the rest.
We had a group of 6 or so going for years, oce or twice a week. D&D, Call of Cthulhu, Carwars, Star Fleet Battles, Flashing Steel, WW1 flying game, napoleonic naval stuff, Vampire The Masquerade, Star Trek...ahh, the joys of geekdom.
Still have most of it in boxes, sold some on E-bay to make space.
