DVD/CD rom drivers completely gone from laptop?

Hey there. It seems my DVD/CD rom drive is non existent. While physically it's there, obviously. But when I go to device manager, the DVD/CD rom area is not there. Please someone tell me what's going on, and more importantly how to fix it. The laptop I'm using is a HP Pavilion dv2500 running on Vista. Thanks!
