E-mailing a cellphone?

I just e-mailed my sister's new cellphone and when she read my message, there was a weird square symbol and some dashes in it. I'd sent the message from my hotmail account to a Virgin Mobile cell phone. Does anyone know why that is or how I can get rid of it?

The weird square symbol is a character that her phone doesn'tt have or recognize. Its a normal thing, try by not using puncuation marks.
