I just brought a samsung 1Tb hard disk but when i went to partition it, it was showing only 930 GB as partionable. What do i do?? The windows XP doesn't wast 70 GB as far as i know it. What should be the problem???
internal hard disk
my brother also gt a 1 TB along with me. But on his only 20Gb has been eaten why so????

That discrepancy is caused by how Windows reports hard drive space and how the manufacturer defines it.

Hard disks are defined as 1000MB = 1GB, and 1000GB = 1TB.

Windows uses the true conversion, which is 1024 MB = 1GB and 1024 GB = 1TB.

Your hard drive is a 1 TB drive according to the manufacturer, but because Windows will read the available amount of space differently, it will report it as a 930GB drive.

Windows is actually correct using the true definition of a gigabyte. The drives are actually the same size, no space has been eaten up.

ya that thing happens windows just corrects it for you and appently only adds up to 930GB...but still thats alot of space for a computer...so no problem...for an example...i have a 8GB ipod touch and it only gives me like 7.5GB of space...so ya its no problem its normal
