editing video dvd on computer?

I ripped a dvd to my computer. I am trying to edit it in video soft dub program. I get this message " the video codec is not supported" it says it is in MP4 & I have other videos that are MP4 & have no trouble with them. Anyone have any idea as to what my problem may be ?

sounds like you dont have updated codecs, search google(or whatch a youtube video for even more help) for the newest codecs and install them, hope this helps

by codec it means the compression video codec that was used like h.264,avc etc.mp4 is a container format.
