Being Christian definitely keeps people safe. Born Again Christians are much less likely to abuse alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs or even legal drugs. They are more likely to eat right and take supplements. They believe quite correctly that their body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and they are thus more motivated to take care of themselves. They are less likely to have a sexually transmitted disease or pass one on. They are less likely to gamble or abuse their kids. In fact they are much less likely to have any kind of bad habits that threaten their survival or the survival of their children.
They not what habits are wrong and unhealthy and are less likely to have them because they think the spirit of God is watching them or that such habits will cause permanent damage to their spirit. If we dont believe anyone is watching over us we are much more likely to harm others and ourselves and not think of our actions are how God might think of us.
PaulCyp - I put "delusional" in quotes meaning it is quoting from someplace else, it is not something i myself actually believe.
Derek - Im talking religion with its morals, in general. I just happened to add Christianity into the mix because i am a Christian but i do mean religion in general.
Objection - There is no justifying the wrongs these people did, but i am talking about the individual person. Indeed there are many religious groups that kill and perform many atrocities, however, i persons holy text says "Do not harm your body in any way for the spirit of god is in it" are they less likely to do so because their conscience is against it?
Also if their text says "Do not kill any human" will it at least slightly keep them from killing?
YES, we are all HUMAN. Not one of us is perfect. Im not saying any religious person is more morally upright than a non religious/atheist. We all sin but im saying that we strive not to.
Heres one of my sources for how religion keeps people healthy. I had a couple more but i forgot the links even the titles of the pages. Ill try to look for them.
