everytime divX tries to open a file it says "not supported file type" why?

thought it may only be certain files but every time ive downloaded something that automatically tries to open in divX the unsupported file message appears, ive reinstalled divX when i recently upgraded my macbook but still doesn't work. i dont particularly need it but i assume it makes burning files ect. easier? any advice? thanks : )
