A Goiania state championship semifinal match between Goias and Vila Nova was delayed for 20 minutes in the first half on Sunday so firefighters could use diesel fuel and fire extinguishers remove a swarm of bees that had overtaken the top corner of one goal post.

This should have been taken as an omen and everyone should have just gone home because the match ended with a 2-2 draw and a brawl between the two teams. And, most horrifying of all, once police broke that up, a 19-year-old Goias fan was shot and killed outside the stadium. It's unclear whether the shooting was prompted by a tensions from the match or an unrelated matter. Either way, it's not something that should be happening at or around a football match. Obviously.

Again, once the bees showed up, everyone should have just gone home.
